What is The Prayer of Commitment?
Our commitment to God is able to bring us strength, stability, peace, love, patience, wisdom, joy, gentleness, and goodness when we are re-born into Christ (Galatians 5:22). Our surrender to The LORD allows His Spirit to come to us and abide within us; guiding born-again believers in their walk with Jesus Christ.
His promise is to provide all that we need – spiritually, physically, and financially – so that we can serve Him and share the Good News, The Gospel of Jesus Christ.
As babes in Christ, surrendering to Him in all things is often a struggle; we look at our own lives in this world and the things we have accumulated and wonder how we will survive if we turn from the things of this world and look only to Jesus Christ for our provision, protection, and prosperity.
The early church had this same struggle.
The Apostle Peter, in writing to the church at Galatia, spoke of the struggle many of the elders faced and encouraged them to grow in faith;
- Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. – 1 Peter 5:7 KJV
Peter encouraged the church to serve one another in the love of Christ and not out of their fleshy desires.
Peter spoke to the elders and encouraged them to serve their flock out of love – in commitment to Christ. Looking to the promise of our Lord Jesus Christ’s return and turning away from the things of this world and the riches of today.
When we commit to Christ, we do so with faith; knowing and believing His Word and surrendering to Him in all things. It is this commitment to The LORD that restores believers in spirit and brings blessing upon us.
An Example prayer of commitment:
We thank you for Your promise to carry our burdens, take away our anxiety, and give us rest.
It is written in Psalm 55:22 “Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
The Book of Matthew (11:28) says “Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
In the gospel of John (14:27) it is written “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
LORD, I commit my life to You. I follow The LORD Jesus Christ and seek His love, guidance, strength, and provision in all things each day. By His Spirit I will be led, fed, loved, and protected. By Him, In Him, and Through Him – all my needs are met.
WARNING: There are those within the church today who have corrupted The Word of God and used it to name and claim material possessions. The prayer of commitment is not to be used for this purpose. Jesus told His disciples it was far easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven. Greed does not come from God.
- And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. – Matthew 19:24 KJV
When you commit all things to The LORD in prayer, do so with a humble, thankful, faithful, servants’ heart. He will stand behind His Word.
